I am 30 years old and my husband is 35, and we have been the happy parents of a wonderful little boy for three years now, who we have named Jacob. I decided to tell our story about IVF and our struggle to have the child we wanted. I believe that our story will inspire many couples who have been in a situation similar to ours to seek treatment in the best possible place.

We had been trying for a baby since 2011. Unfortunately, every month the test was negative. So I started looking for good gynaecologists. I went through a lot of tests, took a very large amount of medication for ovulation. Unfortunately, my body did not respond.

My husband also did a semen test. The results were very good, and so the fault lay with me.

Finally, in 2015, we made the decision to go ahead with IVF. The first two transfers took place at another clinic, as I did not yet know that InviMed existed. First transfer (August 2015) unsuccessful. Second transfer (September 2015) successful. Pregnancy confirmed by urine test, blood test and ultrasound performed.

Unfortunately, our happiness did not last very long.

In December, we went for a first trimester ultrasound at the Polyclinic on Grobla in Hirszfeld Square. It was there that we met Dr Marcin Trzeciak. The doctor performed the ultrasound and unfortunately found that the baby's heart was not beating. It was the 12th week of pregnancy.

The world collapsed under our feet. The next day we went to the hospital where I had a curettage procedure.

Exactly on 9.12.2015 my little one left the place under my heart.

Four and a half months have passed. We decided to try again, but already in a new place. The InviMed clinic was recommended to us. We went for the first consultation, our attending doctor was Dr Marcin Trzeciak, who we already knew.

In May I started stimulation with injections. On 16 May an LP took place. Of the egg cells taken, only one was mature, the rest had to mature in the lab. I was afraid that this our next approach would be a failure.

On 21 May we were scheduled for an embryo transfer into the uterine cavity, to be carried out by Dr Krzysztof Żórawski. I walked into the office with my heart in my throat. I didn't know what I would find out from the doctor, whether there was any embryo to transfer at all.

I sat down and heard: "the only embryo that survived and that we will give is of excellent quality". I was frightened that there was only one embryo out of all the cells, but the doctor said it wasn't the quantity that mattered, but the quality.

The transfer took place as planned. From the moment the embryo was administered, my intuition told me that this time it would work. On 29 May, we went to the lab to do a blood test. I was already so impatient that walking into the collection point, I was basically shaking with excitement.

After a few hours the news - positive! The HCG was 27 units. I was jumping with happiness, but at the same time I was afraid to carry this pregnancy to the very end, so that it wouldn't end like before....

Fortunately, the nine months passed quite smoothly. Because I had gestational hypertension, and it was the end of my pregnancy, the attending doctor referred me to the hospital. On 6 February I was admitted. However, my baby was in no hurry to come out. On 9 February, I was given oxytocin - a hormone that triggers uterine contractions and speeds up labour. Unfortunately, my son started to suffocate - a caesarean section was required.

And so on 9.02.2017 at 13:10 our son Jakub was born. He weighed 3850 g, measured 57cm. He got 10 points on the Agpar scale.

Immediately after the birth, I called Dr Trzeciak to inform him that the baby boy was already in the world. What was our surprise when it turned out that the son had been born on Dr Martin's birthday. A remarkable coincidence.

We are grateful to our attending doctor, Dr. Trzeciak and Dr. Żurawski, who performed the transfer, as well as to the entire InviMed team from Wrocław. Our happiness is growing healthily and we have been a complete family for three years now.

        Worth the fight!

        ***

THANK YOU

We would like to thank Ms Joanna for her letter and for sharing her story with us. We received it in a private message on InviMed's Facebook page. If you would like to share your experiences with us, please feel free to contact us.
