Statistically, 7-8 embryos are obtained from 10 fertilised oocytes, of which only 3-4 are properly formed and suitable for transfer or freezing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When hormonal ovarian stimulation is used, IVF yields better results because more than one dominant follicle is formed per cycle and doctors have more mature oocytes available.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"check-list\">\n\t    <header class=\"check-list__header\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"stymulacja-jajeczkowania-przed-in-vitro\">Ovulation stimulation before IVF<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hormonal stimulation of ovulation (ovulation stimulation) contributes to a marked increase in the effectiveness of the <a href=\"https:\/\/invimed.pl\/en\/insemination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">intrauterine insemination<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/invimed.pl\/en\/metody-zaplodnienia-pozaustrojowego\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in vitro fertilisation procedures<\/a>, which is why most couples undertaking infertility treatment opt for ovulation support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hormone stimulation of the ovaries follows strict rules - the so-called stimulation protocol is chosen individually, taking into account such data on the woman as:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n    <\/header>\n    <ul class=\"mb-0 p-0 check-list__inner\">\n            <li class=\"d-flex check-list__item\">\n            <div class=\"svg-container\">\n                <svg width=\"16\" height=\"16\">\n                    <use xlink:href=\"#icon-check-2\" \/>\n                <\/svg>\n            <\/div>\n            <div class=\"check-list__item__rte\">\n                <div class=\"check-list__item__rte\">\n<p>age,<\/p>\n<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/li>\n            <li class=\"d-flex check-list__item\">\n            <div class=\"svg-container\">\n                <svg width=\"16\" height=\"16\">\n                    <use xlink:href=\"#icon-check-2\" \/>\n                <\/svg>\n            <\/div>\n            <div class=\"check-list__item__rte\">\n                <div id=\"paragraph-7333\" class=\"article__paragraph\">\n<p>weight,<\/p>\n<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/li>\n            <li class=\"d-flex check-list__item\">\n            <div class=\"svg-container\">\n                <svg width=\"16\" height=\"16\">\n                    <use xlink:href=\"#icon-check-2\" \/>\n                <\/svg>\n            <\/div>\n            <div class=\"check-list__item__rte\">\n                <p>the concentration of anti-m\u00fcllerian hormone (AMH) in the blood,<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/li>\n            <li class=\"d-flex check-list__item\">\n            <div class=\"svg-container\">\n                <svg width=\"16\" height=\"16\">\n                    <use xlink:href=\"#icon-check-2\" \/>\n                <\/svg>\n            <\/div>\n            <div class=\"check-list__item__rte\">\n                <p>the result of a vaginal ultrasound examination.<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>The procedure generally takes 7-12 days, as this is how long it takes for the ovarian follicles to mature in the ovary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the follicles have reached the right size (more than 17 mm) and a blood test shows the correct oestradiol concentration, the patient receives a subcutaneous or intramuscular injection with hCG, which induces first maturation and then ovulation, i.e. the release of the resulting ova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"stymulacja-owulacji-zawsze-musi-odbywac-sie-pod-kontrola\">Ovulation stimulation must always be carried out under control<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During hormonal stimulation for IVF, the woman is under constant medical observation, as it is necessary to monitor the growth of the ovarian follicles on an ongoing basis (the so-called 'ovarian growth monitoring'). <a href=\"https:\/\/invimed.pl\/en\/cycle-monitoring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cycle monitoring<\/a>). In addition, drugs that partially block the pituitary gland are used to prevent premature rupture of the follicles. In contrast, in the short protocols, the inhibitory drugs are given in parallel with the gonadotropins (FSH, FSH+LH). Therefore, it does not make sense to compare stimulation drugs prescribed by different doctors between different patients.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"skutki-uboczne-stymulacji-jajnikow\">Side effects of ovarian stimulation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hormonal drugs to stimulate ovarian follicle production are short-acting and generally do not cause unpleasant side effects, but they must be administered under the close supervision of a doctor who will assess the number of ovulatory follicles and determine whether they are all growing properly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is accepted that the normal number of antral follicles (3-10 mm in diameter) is 5-15 in each ovary, while larger numbers, such as 20-30, may indicate polycystic ovarian syndrome. This condition can pose a serious risk to a woman as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) can occur as a result of hormonal medication.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not bursting follicles despite medication is also a worrying symptom, as it can lead to the development of cysts on the ovaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/invimed.pl\/en\/przyczyny-nieplodnosci-zaburzenia-owulacji\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Find out more about ovulation disorders &gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"zespol-hiperstymulacji-jajnikow\">Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The term ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS - <em>Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome<\/em>) is defined as a situation in which the ovarian follicles and ovaries enlarge uncontrollably, despite the cessation of stimulant medication, and systemic changes occur as a result of a number of substances secreted by the stimulated ovaries, including the movement of body fluids into spaces outside the blood vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OHSS figures<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ovarian hyperstimulation (OHSS) can have one of four forms: mild, moderate, severe or critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td><a href=\"https:\/\/invimed.pl\/en\/leczenie-nieplodnosci-stymulacja-owulacji\/\">Mild form<\/a><\/td><td>If OHSS is mild, the woman experiences tightness or soreness in the lower abdomen, sometimes nausea; a few days after stopping the hormone medication, these symptoms resolve spontaneously as the hormone concentration in the blood gradually decreases.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><a href=\"https:\/\/invimed.pl\/en\/blog\/ovarian-hyperstimulation\/\">Moderate course<\/a><\/td><td>Moderate ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome causes, in addition to the symptoms mentioned in the mild course, enlargement of the abdominal girth, vomiting or diarrhoea; pain becomes more severe.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><a href=\"https:\/\/invimed.pl\/en\/blog\/ovarian-hyperstimulation\/\">Severe hyperstimulation<\/a><\/td><td>Women who present with the severe or critical form of OHSS experience very significant ovarian enlargement, ascites and respiratory distress.
