Fear has big eyes.

Fear of the first visit to an infertility clinic accompanies every couple. This is perfectly natural, but it is not worth delaying the decision to have a check-up for too long. The sooner you consult a specialist, the greater the chance of having the desired offspring. Therefore, when you go for your first appointment, visualise your goal of having a baby. This will certainly help you to break through.

When is it worth consulting a specialist?

This depends on the age of the couple. When the woman is under 30, it is recommended to make an appointment after one year of unsuccessful efforts to get pregnant. If the woman is between 30 and 39, it is advisable to consult after just six months. On the other hand, couples in which either the woman or the man is over 40 should come for an appointment as soon as possible.

What should you bear in mind before your visit?

The presence of both partners is required.2. If you have already attempted infertility treatment, you should bring your medical records from that period.3. Don't forget your identity cards. Patient data are confirmed at all stages of treatment, which guarantees safety.

What happens during the first visit?

We start with a medical interview with the couple. During the medical history, we collect information about past medical conditions, results of examinations and procedures performed. (2) We then carry out a physical examination of the woman, which involves a physical assessment of the condition of the reproductive organs. We usually also perform a transvaginal ultrasound. 3. Finally, we recommend a series of tests. In the case of a woman, this is usually to check hormone levels: AMH and FSH (performed on day 3 of the cycle) and TSH, testosterone, oestradiol and prolactin. On top of this, there is also a cytology. The man receives a referral for a semen test.

The first visit lasts approximately 40 minutes. After the tests have been performed, patients attend a second appointment, during which the doctor sets up an individual treatment plan.
