Consultation with cycle monitoring

A consultation with cycle monitoring is your chance to confirm the calculations of the fertile days calculator. With a consultation, you will verify whether ovulation is actually occurring on the expected days. Identifying your fertile days and trying to conceive just when you do, can significantly improve your chances of getting pregnant naturally.

For whom is the consultation with cycle monitoring?

A consultation during which cycle monitoring can be performed is an option for you if you and your partner have not yet had your first infertility consultation at our clinic and you meet one of the conditions listed below:

  • you want to get pregnant naturally and need to know the exact time of ovulation, i.e. the most fertile days of your cycle,

  • you have used the fertile days calculator and want to confirm the result,

  • you suspect you have ovulatory cycles and want to check (in women of childbearing age, such cycles may occur in the course of specific conditions, e.g. hypothyroidism or polycystic ovarian syndrome; such cycles may also be a consequence of cancer therapy).

Use the fertile days calculator

If you haven't already used the ovulation calculator, you can find it on the website: Fertile day calculator. Check that you are trying for a baby at the best time in your cycle. When you do, come in for a consultation with cycle monitoring to confirm your ovulation date.

What does a consultation with cycle monitoring involve?

A consultation with cycle monitoring involves an in-depth medical history and observation and assessment of the growth and maturation of the ovarian follicles. During the monitoring, the doctor also examines the structure and thickness of the endometrium, i.e. the endometrium. The examination is performed by means of a vaginal ultrasound.

The ultrasound takes about 5-10 minutes. During this time, the doctor checks whether the follicle is growing, what size it is and whether it has already ruptured. At the patient's request, the doctor may print out an ultrasound picture of the follicle. If the follicle is already mature, the doctor determines when the couple should have intercourse to have the best chance of natural conception. If necessary, the doctor will order additional tests for the patient.

Due to the high variability of menstrual cycles (even in healthy women ovulatory cycles occur), it is sometimes necessary to monitor ovulation over several consecutive months in order to obtain a reliable result. In this case, the doctor may invite the patient to a further visit involving only brief cycle monitoring (cycle monitoring for Invimed patients).

When to report for cycle monitoring?

If you are interested in cycle monitoring, please contact us as soon as possible to book a suitable date for your gynaecological consultation.

In order for a cycle monitoring consultation to be meaningful, you need to come for it on a specific day of your monthly cycle. The menstrual cycle starts from the first day of the onset of your period and continues until the day before you bleed again.

  • If your cycle is not between 26 and 32 days, make an appointment for an initial infertility consultation at our clinic as soon as possible.

  • If your cycle lasts between 26 and 32 days, you can use monitoring to determine ovulation (ovulation) and the most fertile days in your cycle.

What does a consultation with cycle monitoring involve?

How do you determine the day on which it is best to schedule such a consultation?

You can calculate the best day on which your cycle monitoring consultation should take place using the activity described below.

Divide the average number of cycle days by 2 and then subtract 2. The result determines the day of the cycle on which it is most beneficial to carry out the monitoring. For example - when the cycle lasts an average of 30 days, the action is 30/2-2=13, i.e. you should come for monitoring on the 13th day of the monthly cycle.

If the calculated day falls on a Sunday, a consultation can be arranged slightly earlier, e.g. on Friday. If the result is not a whole number, round it down (12.5 -> 12).

Can you determine ovulation on your own?

You can determine the day of ovulation yourself, with the help of home ovulation strip tests, a fertile day calculator or by observing your body during the different phases of your cycle. However, the most effective and accurate method of determining your fertile days is to consult a cycle monitor.

It is advisable to use the fertile day calculator option in the first months of trying for a baby. In the long term, it is worth entrusting the assessment of ovulation to a gynaecologist from an infertility clinic and making an appointment for a consultation with cycle monitoring or coming for an initial infertility consultation.

If you have been trying for a baby for a long time
Couples who have had many unsuccessful attempts to get pregnant should opt for cycle monitoring under the guidance of a doctor, because regular periods and the fact that there are symptoms indicating ovulation are not enough to confirm that the ovulation process is going well. Such monitoring can be carried out as part of a consultation with cycle monitoring, but also as part of an initial infertility consultation.

Monitoring, consultation with monitoring or first infertility consultation?

Cycle monitoring is an option for Invimed patients, i.e. women who have already had an initial infertility consultation or a consultation with cycle monitoring. The consultation with cycle monitoring is a medical interview and a transvaginal ultrasound. The first infertility consultation, on the other hand, includes not only cycle monitoring, but also an extended gynaecological consultation with a doctor specialising in infertility treatment and a meeting with a midwife, the care coordinator.

  • If you have been struggling to get pregnant for a long time, an initial infertility consultation will be a more beneficial option. Come to the consultation together with your partner.

  • If you just want to check whether you are actually ovulating at the time when you should be ovulating, come for a consultation with cycle monitoring.

  • If you are an Invimed patient (you are after your first infertility consultation and you already have an attending doctor who has recommended this), you can make an appointment for cycle monitoring.
