FERTILITY DIET - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

A proper, balanced diet is important for both parents-to-be and the already conceived child. Certain nutrients improve fertility in both men and women. Which ones in particular are worth bearing in mind?

  • Folic acid, which can be found in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli and Brussels sprouts, as well as in beans, nuts and seeds.

  • calcium, which is provided by dairy products such as whole milk, cheese and yoghurt, and certain vegetables such as broccoli and spinach.

  • omega-3 fatty acids, of which salmon and all other seafood offer an abundance (these acids help, among other things, to regulate the key hormones that trigger ovulation).

  • Iron - lean red meat, spinach, black beans and lentils are excellent sources of it.

  • Zinc and selenium - it is worth adding lean meat, dairy products, eggs, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds or mushrooms (mushrooms, chanterelles, oyster mushrooms) to the diet.

  • Protein - Recipes in a fertility diet should abound in sources of quality protein - it is better to bet on quality meat and, in the case of a vegan diet, not to forget the daily portion of protein (beans, peas, nuts, cereal products).

On the occasion of the approaching festival of love, we recommend combining business with pleasure. We present you with some suggestions for dinner for Valentine's Day, which not only taste delicious, but also provide a range of fertility-promoting ingredients.

SEAFOOD AND FENNEL SALAD

Ingredients:

  • cooked prawns (size 16/20) - as many as you like

  • thinly sliced calamari

  • 1 bunch of parsley

  • 1 fennel bulb (cut into thin slices)

  • 2 stalks (including leaves) of celery (cut into thin slices)

  • peperoncino pepper

  • sea salt and 1 lemon to taste

  • in addition: 100 ml olive oil and 100 ml white wine vinegar

Method of preparation:

Scald the prawns and squid in boiling water with wine vinegar, set aside for 10 minutes. Mix with celery, dill, parsley, oil and lemon juice, season with salt and peperoncino.

Serve shortly after preparation!

MARINATED MUSSELS - MUSSELS IN WHITE WINE

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg of mussels

  • 3 shallot onions

  • 1/2 bunch of parsley

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 100 ml dry white wine

  • pepper and salt to taste

Method of preparation:

Scrub the mussels. Be sure to scrape off the growths from the shells and tear off the byssus (fibrous threads). Rinse thoroughly under cold running water and pat dry. When cleaning, do not soak them in water for a long time or they will open up.

Peel and finely chop the onions. Wash and dry the parsley, cut off the leaves and chop.

In a saucepan, melt the butter, fry the shallots in it. Pour in the white wine, add the parsley (remember to leave some for decoration). Now you can increase the heat and bring to the boil.

Add the mussels and cook covered for 5 - 6 minutes over a high heat until the shells open.

Remember to shake the saucepan occasionally, this will ensure that the mussels cook evenly.

Remove from the heat, select and discard any mules that have not opened. Sprinkle with the remaining parsley. Serve immediately after preparation.

TROPICAL RICE PUDDING WITH CHIA

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass of water

  • 1⁄2 cup brown rice

  • 1⁄4 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 2⁄3 cup whole milk

  • 2 tablespoons of honey

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 3 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 cup chopped pineapple

  • 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios (or other nuts)

Method of preparation:

Pour water over the brown rice in a pot and rinse. Then pour in clean water, add a pinch of salt and cook for about 30 minutes covered. The water must be completely absorbed and the rice should be soft and stretchy.

Place the prepared rice in a medium bowl. Add the milk, honey, cinnamon, vanilla extract and chia seeds, stirring until combined. Cover and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours to allow the seeds to absorb the milk and honey.

Spread the cooled pudding into four bowls, then sprinkle each portion with pineapple chunks and chopped pistachios. A delicious dessert that influences fertility, it will be the perfect culmination to a romantic dinner.

Enjoy!
