MAP AND DIRECTIONS

What does the IVF procedure look like at Invimed?

According to recent figures, one in five couples of reproductive age in Poland is unsuccessfully trying to have a child. For many of these people, the chance to fulfil the dream of parenthood is to use in vitro fertilisation. Currently, of all the infertility treatment methods used, in vitro fertilisation is considered to be by far the most effective.

What is the in vitro method?

The in vitro fertilisation procedure involves the fusion of a female gamete with a male gamete under laboratory conditions (Latin for in vitro).

How does the in vitro procedure work?

The IVF method consists of several stages.

  • The first step is to visit a specialist and perform an appropriate diagnosis.
  • After reviewing the results, the doctor prescribes hormonal medication to the woman and the so-called hormonal stimulation begins.
  • After hormonal stimulation, an LP procedure is performed.
  • Under laboratory conditions, an experienced embryologist combines a female cell with a male cell. Embryo culture begins.
  • Between the 2nd and 5th day after fertilisation, an embryo transfer procedure is carried out into the woman's uterus.

Frequently asked questions - FAQ

How long does the whole IVF treatment process take from the first visit to embryo transfer?

A complete IVF cycle usually takes 6-8 weeks. This includes time for diagnosis, hormonal stimulation (10-14 days), puncture, embryo culture and transfer.

Is it possible to work normally during an IVF procedure?

Yes, most women can continue to work during IVF treatment. An exemption may only be needed on the day of LP and embryo transfer and during more intensive monitoring.

What are the contraindications to IVF?

Contraindications include severe heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, malignant tumours, severe psychiatric disorders and uterine defects that make it impossible to carry a pregnancy. The final decision is made by the doctor after full diagnostics.

What happens to unused embryos after the procedure?

Surplus embryos of good quality can be frozen and stored for several years. This gives the possibility of subsequent attempts without repeating the entire stimulation and puncture procedure.

How long after the transfer can a pregnancy test be performed?

A pregnancy test is performed around 12-14 days after embryo transfer. Earlier testing may give a false result due to the presence of hormones from treatment.
