What is the in vitro method?
The in vitro fertilisation procedure involves the fusion of a female gamete with a male gamete under laboratory conditions (Latin for in vitro).
How does the in vitro procedure work?
The IVF method consists of several stages.
- The first step is visit to a specialist, who orders the partners to carry out the appropriate diagnostics.
- After reviewing the results, the doctor prescribes hormonal medication to the woman and the so-called hormonal stimulation begins.
- After hormonal stimulation, an LP procedure is performed.
- Under laboratory conditions, an experienced embryologist combines a female cell with a male cell. Embryo culture begins.
- Between the 2nd and 5th day after fertilisation, an embryo transfer procedure is carried out into the woman's uterus.

A full IVF cycle usually takes 6-8 weeks. This includes time for diagnosis (1-2 weeks), hormonal stimulation (10-14 days), puncture, embryo culture and transfer.
Yes, age has a significant impact on effectiveness. The best results are obtained in women under 35 years of age. After the age of 40, the likelihood of getting pregnant decreases significantly.
Surplus high-quality embryos can be frozen (cryopreservation) and used in subsequent cycles. This reduces costs and eliminates the need for hormonal re-stimulation.
Contraindications include active cancer, severe heart, liver or kidney disease, untreated infections and certain uterine defects that prevent a normal pregnancy.
After embryo transfer, it is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise for a few days, but normal activities can be carried out. There is no need for prolonged lying down or restriction of daily activities.
