Egg cell adoption programme with guaranteed embryo numbers

Oocyte adoption is a medical programme that enables women who do not have their own ova or who are incapable of fertilisation to become pregnant. The procedure involves in vitro fertilisation of cells taken from anonymous donors with the sperm of the patient's partner. The programme is designed for women up to the age of 49 who have lost their fertility after cancer therapy, have experienced premature ovarian failure or have genetic burdens. Find out the details of the first programme in Poland with an embryo quality guarantee.

Highlights

  • The Invimed programme guarantees a minimum of 3 high-quality embryos from 10-12 oocytes from healthy donors.
  • Unmarried couples must file a declaration of paternity with the USC before the start of the in vitro procedures.
  • Embryo transfer occurs after 3-5 days of development and confirmation of pregnancy is possible 12 days after the procedure.

Meet Poland's first programme with guaranteed embryo numbers and quality

Egg cell adoption programme in Invimed clinics guarantees patients a minimum of 3 high quality embryos, which significantly increases the chance of pregnancy.

As part of the programme standard:

  • Guaranteed number of 3 embryos and 10-12 ova

  • Fertile and healthy donors meeting strict medical and formal conditions

  • are under 49 years of age and are unable to become pregnant naturally or with the help of IVF due to the lack or poor quality of their own ova,

  • have lost fertility after cancer therapy,

  • have genetic burdens with adverse effects on the course of pregnancy and the health of the child,

  • have experienced premature cessation of ovarian function,

  • have a history of miscarriages or unsuccessful attempts at in vitro fertilisation (lack of high quality embryos, difficulties implanting the embryo in the uterus or abnormalities at the embryo development stage after transfer resulting in miscarriage).

Qualification visit

Qualification visit

Both partners should come to the appointment.

Doctor on first visit:
- will take a medical history,
- will learn about the couple's treatment history,
- examine the patient,
- orders all necessary medical and laboratory tests
to qualify for the Programme.

At the same time, the partner may be referred to a urologist or andrologist, where he will receive a referral for a semen test.

If the couple is not married, a man entering into an IVF procedure with his partner using donor sperm will be required to sign a declaration at the Registry Office that he will be the father of the child.

The female partner will also be obliged, within 3 months from the date of the partner's declaration, to confirm with the Registry Office that the father of the child will be that man.

If the man does not make a declaration at the USC, the couple will not be able to start the IVF procedure.

Selection of the donor

Selection of the donor

The selection of the donor is made according to the phenotypic characteristics of the recipients and the patient's blood group. The final choice is made by the doctor on the basis of the anatomical, morphological and physiological characteristics of the donor in relation to the phenotype of the patient. According to current legislation, only anonymous donation and recipient of reproductive cells is possible, which guarantees complete anonymity for both recipient and donor. Contact between the two parties is also impossible.

Preparation for the in vitro procedure

Preparation for the in vitro procedure

Following in vitro fertilisation of donor cells, transfer of
obtained embryos can occur over time:
- the duration of the patient's natural cycle
- or a cycle assisted by mild hormonal stimulation as determined by the doctor.

Semen collection

Semen collection

The male partner of the patient, in the comfort of a specially prepared room for men, donates semen for examination. He can do this 1.5 hours before the IVF procedure or during the procedure. The semen will undergo sperm selection procedures for the best parameters to ensure proper fertilisation of the ova.

In vitro fertilisation

In vitro fertilisation

In vitro fertilisation takes place in an embryology laboratory, where frozen egg cells obtained from the donor - after being heated - will be fertilised with the partner's sperm. The method of assisted fertilisation (IVF) - ICSI, PICSI, IMSI - will be chosen accordingly.
The cells thus fertilised are placed in an incubator, where they have the right conditions to develop. The development of the embryos takes between 3 and 5 days.

Embryo transfer

Embryo transfer

One or two embryos are selected for transfer, depending on their stage of development, and are inserted into the patient's uterine cavity. The procedure is carried out using a thin catheter. If more embryos have been created during the fertilisation process, the remaining embryos can be frozen and used at a later stage.

After the transfer

After the transfer

The patient should lead a quiet lifestyle after transfer, limiting her physical activity. To confirm a biochemical pregnancy, the patient's beta hCG level is determined approximately 12 days after transfer and an ultrasound is performed at 4-5 weeks to confirm a clinical pregnancy.

Frequently asked questions - FAQ

How much does the egg cell adoption programme cost?

The cost of the scheme depends on the range of benefits. It is worth inquiring about the possibility of reimbursement from the National Health Fund and checking payment by instalments.

Will the child resemble the biological mother?

The donor is selected for similarity of physical characteristics to the patient, but the child may also inherit characteristics from the partner. Full similarity is not guaranteed.

How long does the whole process take from the first visit to the transfer?

The process can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on the results of the qualifying tests, the time needed to select a suitable donor and the synchronisation of the patient's cycle with the procedure.

Is it possible to find out information about the egg donor?

Under Polish law, donation is completely anonymous. Only basic medical information relevant to the health of the child can be obtained, but no data allowing the identification of the donor.

What happens to unused embryos?

Surplus embryos of good quality can be frozen and stored for several years. This gives the possibility of further attempts without having to repeat the whole procedure and the chance of a second child in the future.
